GuntherGerzsowasborninMexicoCityin1915.Whenhehadfinishedhis
primaryeducationheleftMexicoandlivedinSwitzerlanduntil1932.Therefol-
lowedfiveyearsinthe UnitedStatesofAmericastudyingtheaterandmotion
picturescenography,towhichhenowdevotesmostofhisactivity.
In 1941 Gerzsobegantopaintforhisamusement. Severalartistsencouraged
him,however,sohetookuppaintingmoreprofessionally,withtheresultthathis
firstone-manshow,whichtookplaceinMexicoCityin1950,wasamarkedsuccess.

self-taught.Until 1927 helivedandworkedinBoston,butinthatyearwenttoParis
andsouthernFrance,returningtotheUnitedStatespermanentlyin1933.InFrance
heexhibitedatNiceandMonteCarlo,andalsoatSt.-Paul-du-VarwithMatisse,
Picabia,andothers.PrizesincludetheBush.AwardattheCriticsShowinNewYork
in1946,ModernJuryAwardintheexhibitionofContemporaryArtistsofNew
England (1948),andFirstPrizeintheNewEngland.'\rtistsEciuityshowatthe
