hemovedtoParis,becameaFrenchcitizen,firstcametotheUnitedStatesof
Americain1946,marriedtheharpsichordistSylviaMarlowe,andin^1951 becamea
citizenofthiscountry.
Hebegantodrawasasmallchildandbeganpaintingundertheinfluenceofthe
Impressionists.In 1919 and 1920 hewasintheAcademieRansonwhereVuillard,
Bonnard,MauriceDenis,Serusierandotherswereteaching.TraininginCubismwas
experiencedunderMarcoussisandJuanGris,andfurtherinfluencestemmedfrom
"'surrealist'friendswhoseideasIusedlaterinmyownandentirelydifferentway.
ItraveledinmostEuropeancountries,"Leonidcontinues,"especiallyinFranceand
