JuliusW.SchuleiiiwasborninMunichin1881. Hestudiedinhisnativecity
andinParis.ThecontactwiththeartsandartistsofPariswasadecisivefactorin
hisdevelopment.HewasoneofthefoundersoftheNewSecessioninMunich,a
memberoftheDeutscheKiinstlerbundandoftheSecessioninBerlin.Hetraveled
inItaly,Spain,andinFrance,wherehedidmostofhiswork,tookupresidenceafter
Hitlersrisetopower,andmarriedtheFrenchpainterSuzanneCarvallo.In 1941
hecametothiscountry,settledinNewYorkCity,andbecameacitizenin1947.
