NicholasVasilietTwasborn inMo.scowin 1892 andwasgraduatedfromthe
MoscowAcademyofFineArtswithhighesthonorsin1914.HeservedasanoHicer
inthearmyduringthefirstWorldWarandbecameaprofessorattheAcademy
aftertheRussianrevolution.In 1923 hecametotheUnitedStatesofAmericafrom
ConstantinopleandisnowanAmericancitizen.Hisworkhasappearedwidelyin
nationalexhibitionsinthiscountry,andin 1948 wonFirstPrize ($3,000: inthe
LaTauscacompetitiveexhibition.
PicturesbyVasilieffha\ebeenacquiredbyprivatecollectors inthiscountry
andformpartofthe permanentcollectionsofpublicorsemi-publicinstitutions,
amongthemthePhiladelphiaMuseumofArt,YaleUniversity(NewHaven,Clon-
necticut) and the KennethTaylor Galleries of the Nantucket (Massachusetts)
