My dear Reich,

[ 1946 ]

February 12, 1946

I wrote to an old friend, a lady in New York, asking her if
she could help a friend of mine in being naturalised. Today I have her
reply ... "I have a friend in the State Department in Washington and
one in N.Y. in the Office of War Information who would know ways
and means." I don't know if you care to use influence in this way,
but if you think it important I'll give her the information.
Two Danish teachers here for a month, friends of Leunbach, * etc ....
One of the Danes is being analysed by Philipson who is back in Copen
hagen.
My book has had a good reception here. The Times in a leading
article in the Educational Supplement says I am right, and a professor
of education at London Univ. praises me a lot, comparing me with
Rousseau and Pestalozzi. Changed days when my books were sneered
at. But the price I pay is heavy... scores of visitors who make me
very tired with their questions. I lectured to Cambridge Univ. two nights
ago with a crammed full hall and a tremendous enthusiasm from the
undergraduates. They asked about sex a lot.

My dear Neill:
I hurry to answer your short note of February 12th, in which
you suggest help at the State Department in Washington. It is not ad
visable at the present time to use any such measures. My standing in
the U.S.A. is very strong, and either I shall get the citizenship in spite
of all fiends or, if not, we shall be able to fight it through at the courts.
I am very glad about your success, and would like to add that I re
gard you much higher than Pestalozzi.
We are waiting for a new article from you for the Journal.
