[way out] other than war, since all the men in power are stiff-stomached
and anti-life. But on the other hand, Ena and I get great joy out of
Zoe, although here again I often look at her and wonder sadly what life
has in store for her. We had a Danish girl as housemother, an admirer
of Philipson. Zoe was sleepy and Ena lifted her to take her to bed. The
Dane said: "You talk of self-regulation, but you do not practise it; you
should let her fall asleep on the floor and then put her to bed." Ena
said: "She wouldn't fall asleep; she would cry for an hour with tired
ness; what would you do then?" The Dane didn't know.
I STOPPED SMOKING at the end of the year. My throat was
getting worse every day with the strong English cigarettes. I feel much
better. But after tea I feel the want of a smoke.
School opens today and I am back to work, this term to do orgone
therapy with a few problem kids if they will have it. Love to the family
from this family.

Many thanks for the Cancer By. * which I devoured, every
page, even when the lab work was beyond my comprehension. Do you
want to have it reviewed over here? It was so good to have it, for when
one keeps hearing "scientists" say that you don't know the elements of
physics, etc. one feels so alone, so hopeless of science.
I've written to various folks who have contacted me in the past.
[But] I don't want to keep hopping about U.S.A. at all; my dream
is the lake cottage with trips to Orgonon with of course whiskey and
possibly by that time cigarettes; at the moment I am still non-smoking
and have no throat at all.
Constance will give you all our news. I am glad she has gone to see
you and the work, for she is loyalty spelled with a large L.
Zoe is fine, a lovely advertisement for self-regulation, compared with
others around here who are reared in the old vile way. But Ena needs

Orgone, 19 48; reissued in a new translation, 1973 ). Defines and discusses cancer as
"a systemic disease due to chronic thwarting of natural sexual functions."
