Record of a Friendship

orgone energy and orgone institute, is closely connected with the general
human evasiveness in these questions.
We are slowly preparing for home-coming (and hate it).
We shall call you at the Haymes'* soon after our return. Your place
at the table looks still empty, and so do all the whiskey bottles.

Dear Both and Peter Thumper, t

November 14, 1948

I had a great welcome; whole school at station shouting and
cheering. Thanks to Haymes's pal in the Cunard I was transferred to A
deck with pursers etc. bowing to me and giving me fruit in the cabin,
and I had an official come to take me off the ship before all the others.
Bloody king I felt. I liked it of course.
Found the Stimmung [mood] of S'hilllovely. But, fine as it is to be
back, I have still part of my heart in Forest Hills. You were far too
good to me. I suppose I carried off the door key because I wanted to
open your door again many times.
Reich, a Nature Cure Chiropractitioner said at the British N aturo
pathic Conference, 1948, that healers must go to Reich for their funda
mentals. That is good to read. It would be odd if the unqualified
practitioners saw your light before orthodox medicine did.
Well, my very dear friends, now I must go down and tell the assembled
school all about my trip. Blessings to you all.

I am sending on a copy of the Sex Journal with a review of the
Sexual Revolution, a good review too. It will be read by many people.

  • American friends, Duncan and Angelica (Geli) Haymes, with whom Neill
stayed until the Reichs returned from Maine.
t Neill's pet name for Peter Reich.
