about such a sacred thing as life's functioning. I had to reply that be
hind my fun was the serious question that nature hadn't given the sexes
a fair deal, that the tom cat has his orgasm and nothing more, while the
mother has the pains of birth and the joys of motherhood. Also that to
some extent humans have it ill-divided also. After I posted the letter
Zoe said to me: "I wonder why I like Ena much more than I do you."
Which hints that behind my desire for equal sharing in pain and joy was
the feeling that the mother has the best of it really.
In the peace and remoteness of the Norwegian mountain I hope to
sit down and write another book.
Let me know if my visa letter got publicity in U.S.A.
Wells hasn't replied to my refusal. I didn't mind, only I sighed to
think that my dream of making a few dollars had to go.
I am looking forward to a good chat with Raknes, but don't fancy
meeting Philipson again in C'hagen. I don't like clever guys with no
guts. Hoppe wants me to have a lecture tour of Israel, and I've said
okay, I'm all for it.
Still in the dark about the atom experiment. Sounds very brave,
seeing that all the other men dealing with atoms go about encased in
lead or whatnot. Heard the other day of an atomic workman who took
home a screwdriver, and they had to clear out of the house in a hurry,
but that is maybe a fable.
Love to you all from us all. We hope lIse is completely recovered and
Eva too.

Send me all details you may know about the American consul
in London who acted not as an official of the United States where the
church is strictly divorced from the state, but who acted as an envoy of
the Vatican under the disguise of an American representative. It appar
ently had nothing to do with communism but with the anti-genital
attitude of the catholic church. Here in the U.S. such things are not
taken lying down, and the catholic church is not too much liked.
