My dear Neill:

[ 1956 ]

January 18, 1956

It was a great pleasure, indeed, to hear from you again. It
was sad to notice that you are not quite happy. I understand fully why.
It would be splendid if you came to the U.S.A. this summer. You could
stay in my summer house as my guest. Though things have greatly
changed since 1950 , and much new has happened, I am certain we
would get along.
According to reports from England and also from your description,
your land suffers from DOR, i.e., OR energy gone sour or stale, no
matter now what the reason, atomic bombs, space ships or plain a dying
atmosphere. But there is little doubt as to the nature of the predicament
we are in.
Your sad news about Zoe does not surprise me. I saw it coming. Self
regulation cannot possibly work without its physiological, sex-economic
basis. The lack of full application of this basis is the reason for so many
failures. I have a very hard time keeping Peter's life going well for
reasons which I'd rather not mention at this point. He wants, at present,
to become a flier. He was with the expedition in Arizona and he loved
the work and what he witnessed there. He had trouble in Hamilton's
school since the subject of desert work seems taboo there, Ranger told
me point blank that I am a paranoic, and everybody, including lIse,
avoids the subject of my work at present. Can you tell me why they
always, instead of simply stating that they cannot understand, as you
do, have to cover their ignorance up by malignant slander?
I sent you a telegram about Ritter. We here, sane responsible people
who work hard on the atmospheric problem, are convinced that Ritter
can only be made comprehensible if one assumes that he is being used
by pestilent politicians of whatever kind to discredit my orgone work.
He himself knows nothing about it.
You write about what "ordinary folks" are telling you about me. I
wish I knew who these people are who spread the rumours as you say.
I do not care much, but why do they hide?
My Function has been translated into Spanish, French and now also
an Italian translation is asked for.
Would you tell me the name of the pestilent slanderer? Would you
do it, or will you protect the gossiper? It does not matter really ...
I have discovered a new way of doing what I have tried so hard to do
