April 3, 1956Steig sent me an article on cloud busting, etc. [for The New
Era]. I asked him if I could keep the article meantime for it says so
much in so little space.
Poor Judith Bogen is very ill with cancer. The doctors are treating it
with radium which makes me see red, for they must know by now that
radium never cured cancer and never will. A dear sister of mine died
of the same disease and the radium needles simply added to her long
agony. I have told her to use the Box as a means of reducing pain.
Poor Judith, such a damned shame, for she was so kind and gentle.
Just off to a co-ed school conference which will be very moral and
good and asexual, but the meeting place is a club with a licence and it
will be easier to listen to the speeches over a glass of whiskey. Then I
go on to Boumemouth to lecture to a conference on the maladjusted
child... title, "The Therapy of Freedom." In both conferences I'll
meet as usual a few people who want to know all about that man Reich.
An Indian visitor yesterday said to me: "Is it true that Reich is mad?"
"Absolutely," I answered, "mad. The rest of us are all sane ... hence
the world of today." But it is becoming monotonous this futile ignorance
about your work. Yet I meet folks who read you and understand and
are enthusiastic.
I am rereading the Murder of Christ. You've said it, brother. No
appeal from that verdict. And how right you were about Stalin. His
exposure has done great harm to communism in the West.
Sometimes one says to me : "How does this cancer of the lung from
