Record of a Friendship

not. I think you have suffered through too many people being afraid to
challenge you in any way. I think you lost perspective, z.B. [Le.] in
seeing a danger in an ordinary Mensch like Ritter who has not the tact
nor the knowledge to challenge your work. I think you have worried
far too much about folks who were unbedeutend [insignificant].
I wonder if you know how much you mean to many of us, and I
don't mean in your work; I mean emotionally, humanly. The other day
sitting with Sigurd and Raknes and Grete and Lilian Bi the warmth of
their love for you, the fears for your future showed me that they cared
more for Reich the man than Reich the discoverer. They are bedeutend
[significant] while the Boadellas and Ritters etc. aren't. We all felt
strongly the sad fact that we were all 3000 miles from you at this
anxious time of your appeal.
Often I have heard you say: Everyone is right in some way. Now I
say to you that everyone is wrong in some way also. I say that you are
wrong about Peter. He looks too anxious. I think he is trying to live a
part ... "I am the only one who understands what Daddy is doing."
He may understand but his emotions are all mixed up. He isn't Peter
Reich; he is Peter Reich plus Wilhelm Reich. And, dear old friend, call
this emotional plague or what you will. To me it is just plain truth.
I wish you every success in your appeal against an unjust sentence.
I wish you many years to continue your work.
Goodbye, Reich, and bless you,

Your short letter made me cry. It seemed to symbolize your
loneliness, your misery in this abominable martyrdom, yet it conveyed
your courage, your belief in your faith and work. Damn this 3000 miles
separation. I know only a bit of your reality over there, and can have
no perspective. Yet IF you didn't attend the second summons because
someone said the summons wasn't properly signed, then I am sure you
got wrong advice. Such a point cannot fight a battle whereas your
original trumpet call: No court has the right to judge a matter of
science, was right and powerful.
Can no one counteract the wrong publicity you are having? I saw a
