Göring. A Biography

(Michael S) #1


Twelve-year run: Suchenwirth interview of Gen. Paul Deichmann (BA-MA,
Lw./).

Chapter : The Triangular Affair
Genealogy: Prof. Frhr. von Dungern, “Family Trees of Famous Germans,
Generaloberst HG” (Leipzig: ). This displays odd omissions like
Emmy Sonnemann’s first marriage and divorce. Also useful: the
chronological table of genealogical research on eight hundred ancestors
from Charlemagne to HG (undated, BA, R/). The (now missing)
Veldenstein family documents folder listed in Feb.  a baptismal cer-
tificate dated Rosenheim, Apr. , ; a confirmation baptismal cer-
tificate dated Rosenheim, Feb. , ; and a confirmation certificate dated
Mar. ,  (NA, RG, box ). Cf. HG to Franz Gartner, minister of
justice, Dec. , , re transmittal of marriage certificate of HG’s grand-
father, Wilhelm G. (now in Stütz Collection, Yale University).
German South-West Africa: For Dr. H. E. Göring’s service as first imperial
commissioner ad interim in G.S.W.A., from May  to Aug. , see
Horst Grander, History of the German Colonies (Paderborn: ); J. H.
Esterhuyse, South-West Africa, –: The Establishment of German
Authority in South-West Africa (Cape Town: ), ff; and The Colonial
Reich, vol.  (Bibliogr. Institute, Leipzig and Vienna: ); History o f
German Colonial Policy (Berlin: ).
Psychiatrist: Dr. Gustave M. Gilbert, “HG, Amiable Psychopath,” in Journal o f
Abnormal and Social Psychology, vol. , no.  (Apr. ). Report by psy-
chiatrist Dr. Paul L. Schroeder, Dec. ,  (Library of Congress, R. H.
Jackson Papers, box ).
Albert Göring: See his interrogs., SAIC/PIR/, SAIC/FIR/, and at Nurem-
berg on Sept.  and ,  (NA, film M); and his letter to Col. John H.
Amen (NA, RG, R. H. Jackson office files, box ); Bodenschatz,
GRG. HG’s relations with his half-brothers, the “Rhineland Görings,”
was frigid as they were Freemasons. See too HG interrog. by SHAEF, June
,  (USAISC).
Burg Veldenstein: Dr. Wilhelm Schwemmer, typescript history, “The Castle
and Former Parish of Veldenstein” (undated, NA, RG, box , iv).
The Feb.  Veldenstein listing mentions “deeds of conveyancing of
Veldenstein castle, Dec. , .”
Romantic youth: Olga G., cited in Rudolf Diels, Lucifer ante Portas (Zürich:
undated), p. .
As a cadet: The BA-MA at Freiburg archives has a “listing of the most im-
portant dates” from HG’s personnel file (MSg./); much more infor-
mative is the file plundered from HG’s special train at Berchtesgaden i n
May  and now in the USAMHI, Carlisle, Pa.: “Military Personnel
Files of the Reichsmarschall Since , Collated by [Dr. Erich] Gritz-
bach.” Together with the collections mentioned below, these were drawn
upon in Oct.  by the Luftwaffe’s military history division to provide a
basis for “a military biography” of the RM. For reference to Capt. Richard
von Keiser, by Feb.  a major general, aged , see Görnnert’s file, NA,
film T//).
