BTW – while the bracket shown above is not the ideal solution for your macro/close-up work, no
really good wedding photographer would be caught dead without one.
As you can see from the photo, you will need to have a cord running from the cameras’ hot shoe
to the flash unit so that it will fire when you depress the shutter. There are other triggers – like
infra-red and radio controlled units that work too.
My preference is the radio controlled trigger. A small unit attaches to your hot show and the
other half attaches to the flash. I like this option because with the cords, you have to worry about
the cord not being long enough or getting in the way. With infrared units, if it is bright daylight,
they often won’t be able to fire the flash.
Once you have your firing trigger, you can dump the bracket and place the flash unit anywhere
you want it, attach the trigger and you are set to go.
It gives you more options and flexibility.
