Today’s pick

The Nether Regions
Radio 4, 11pm
Radio 4 has a good pedigree
when it comes to weird
late-night comedy, stuff in
tune with that witchy time
before sleep envelops us. Rob
Grant and Andrew Marshall’s
new sketch show certainly
fits that bill, opening with the
Shipping Forecast as normal
people hear it: “Dover, Sole,
Haddock... Vikings, Dolphins,
Plusnet and East Acton.” They
recreate Melvyn Bragg being
attacked by bees and blow up
the Desert Island Discs island,

but making The Archers
interesting seems beyond
them. Some skits are surreal,
while others, such as Love
Island imagined by Jane
Austen, are just silly. But it’s
all good fun. Ben Dowell
