end of a pretty, isolated coastal country road
in Belle Haven, on the Bay side of the middle
of the Virginia Eastern Shore. There’s three
rooms, friendly service, waterfront views and a
screened-in porch.
4 Cape Charles B&B B&B $$

If you want to stay in Cape Charles, on the
southern end of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, this
B&B is a good bet. Five individually appointed
rooms are done up in different colors, with
different historical accents; the Thomas
Dixon room, for example, features silk purses
recycled from hats worn to Woodrow Wilson’s
inauguration.

the name implies, Etta’s has a waterfront view. A
really superb waterfront view, when it comes to
it, but that’s not the best feature of this standby.
We’d say our favorite element is having the
excellent coconut shrimp washed down with a
cold beer as the sun sets ... so OK, maybe the
view is kinda crucial.5 Mr Baldy’s
Family Restaurant American $$

old school Chincoteage institution, Mr Baldy’s
offers delicious, great value food and, as
promised by the name, is family friendly. We’re
not afraid to say this is the best breakfast on
the island, but the rest of the menu is great too.
We recommend sticking to the seafood: the
soft-shell crabs and oysters are a particular
strong point.5 Village Restaurant Seafood $$$
(%757-336-5120; 6576 Maddox Blvd; mains $12-
29; h5-9pm) Perched on a romantic creekside
that provides plenty of birdsong and outdoor
insect buzz to accompany your meal, the
Village is a fine upscale seafood option for those
seeking a little romance and local flavor. Oyster
stew is a nice start; follow it up with broiled local
fish and a cold beer.4 Island Manor House B&B $$

about this bright and cheerful B&B. One of our
favorite qualities is the diversity – where many
B&Bs only offer two or three rooms, there are
nine to pick from here, and none of them are
