Women Leaders in Village Panchayats

I have also taken steps to provide water to a Dalit hamlet that has been
struggling for the past fifteen years. After I intervened, the hamlet was provided
with water under the State sponsored Anaithu grama Anna Marumalarchi
Thittam (AgAMT) Scheme. Despite severe resistance from my community,
I have successfully formed the first SHg of women in the Panchayat after the
Tsunami, to draw women out of the confines of their homes. At present, over
hundred such groups are flourishing in my Panchayat.
