Whatever resource you need, the belief is that somewhere you
have it. Examples of emotional resources that we have
somewhere in our experience include:
❏ Courage.
❏ Peace of mind.
❏ Enthusiasm.
❏ Motivation.
❏ Determination.
❏ Fun.
We each have our representation for each of these kinds of big
chunk words. What matters is that we know what we need and
we know where in our experience we can find it.
It is not just knowing what our desired state is—we also need
to recognize when we have it. The value of feedback is that it
enables us to regulate what we are doing and how we are doing
it. If we know the characteristics of the state we want, we have
a means of measuring when we have got there. Objective,
factual feedback is a potent influence for change. If we know
what characterizes what we want and we know what we have
