You Don’t Want to Miss Your Daily “God
Talks”
In January 2005, my husband, Roger, was diagnosed with
prostate cancer. It was caught early through a random blood
test required by an insurance company. After a biopsy,
repeated blood tests, much laying-on-of-hands prayer by the
elders of our church, and considerable research, we determined
to follow a watch-and-wait protocol, which is common for many
men with prostate cancer but who maintain a low PSA (Prostate
Specific Antigen) count. Additionally, Roger followed a very
strict diet, which eliminated white sugar and white flour. His
monthly PSA blood tests remained in check, always fluctuating
between a very low three and six PSA. Though a PSA count
serves as one indicator that the cancer is not spreading, it is
not the only indicator. As we prayed daily for a complete and
miraculous healing, after much research and medical counsel,
Roger became more open to taking a surgical route to remove
his cancer if the PSA count ever went above the number six. It
was, in essence, a specific prayer request through which we
felt God would give us guidance.
One entire page of my Request section was dedicated to
Roger—his emotional and physical health and his cancer-
fighting protocol. Daily, I would discuss my husband’s health
with God somewhere, somehow in each section of my
notebook. I spent much time listening to God as well as asking
Him to show us when and how to do something different than
what we were already doing. Regularly, I would record my fears
and concerns, anxieties and sadness, thanks for that month’s
low PSA count, as well as record God’s thoughts to me. My
