Analysis-Paper_Alex-Thurston_Final_Web.pdf. It shows the extent to
which the elite will go to conceal the connection between contemporary
Islamic terrorists and their claims that they are emulating the behaviour of
Mohammed (the word ‘Sunnah’ in the real name of Boko Haram). Even
when such a group puts their goal specifically in their name, they are
given an unrelated name, and the experts who mention the proper name in
Arabic will either then not translate it or will give it only a partial
translation (for example, The Brookings Institute translates “Ahl al-Sunna
li-l-Da‘wa wa-l-Jihad” as “People of the Prophet’s Model”. Even
someone with the smallest understanding of the tenets of Islam can
recognise the words “Sunna” (behaviour) and “Jihad” in the Arabic name,
yet The Brookings Institute seems quite content with concealing that these
Muslims see jihad as part of the behaviour of the exemplary model of
Islam, Mohammed. Both The Brookings Institute and National
Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism
claim to be educational research institutes conducting in-depth research
into politics and terrorism. Yet they fail to fully explain the name that this
Islamic terrorist group have chosen for themselves. ↵
