- At the end of 2016, a year which had seen dozens of terrorist attacks and
plots by Muslims in Europe, often targeting Christian activities, the
Catholic elite were quoting the Pope saying “no religion is terrorist”. See
“The world needs politics of peace, says Pope”, Catholic Herald, 12 Dec
2016, http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/news/2016/12/12/the-world-
needs-politics-of-peace-says-pope/. Yet there is considerable doctrinal
authority in the core texts of Islam justifying terrorism by Muslims. There
is no excuse for the Catholic clergy and Catholic journalists not to
understand that this is part of Islamic doctrine and that it permeates the
history of Islam. Pope Francis ignores this and is doing a disservice to
non-Muslims (and to those who might seek to leave Islam and convert to
Christianity). In ensuring that non-Muslims do not understand Islam,
Pope Francis might as well be on the side of Islam. ↵
