- Hamed Abdel Samed, Islamic Fascism, New York, 2016, p.187
(originally published in German in 2014). Interestingly, in 2011 when
Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the head of the Organisation of Islamic
Cooperation (an Islamic organisation and the largest voting bloc at the
United Nations) was asked a question about the difference between
Islamism and Islam he replied “I don’t know anything called Islamism, I
know Islam, in fact I don’t know what Islamism is” (see video here
https://youtu.be/QgXhlQqAHhQ). Professor Ihsanoglu has umpteen
honorary doctorates and professorships from a wide range of universities.
A Google search for the words “Ihsanoglu islamism” returns
http://tundratabloids.com/2008/10/oic-sec-gen-ekmeleddin-ihsanoglu-in-
helsinki-islamism-anti-semitism-where-where/ as the top hits, and that is
the webpage containing the links to and discussion of the above video.
Given the importance of the OIC in global politics and the world of Islam,
and the relative obscurity of the Tundra Tabloids website, it seems likely
that never before has this Secretary-General of the largest Islamic
organisation in the world ever been involved in any discussion positing a
difference between Islam and “Islamism”. For an in-depth discussion of
the OIC see Bat Yeʼor, Europe, Globalization and the Coming Universal
Caliphate, Madison, 2011. ↵
