- The Rodwell translation from 1861 was not the only translation of the
Koran into English. In 1937 Richard Bell of Edinburgh University
published his translation of the Koran, where he refined the work of
putting the Koran into chronological order, work undertaken in the
preceding eighty years by many different scholars in Germany, France
