Upon his return, Abba Heraclas acted like the
Shepherd who goes about seeking the lost sheep. Through
the efforts he exerted, he succeeded in bringing back to the
faith many of those whose human frailty had led them to
deny their Lord. Once they declared their repentance, he
accepted them again into the Community of the Church
without re-baptising them. For, like all the Alexandrian
Fathers, before and after him, he declared that Baptism was
one unto eternity.^5
