Religion in India: A Historical Introduction

Sha ̄h Jaha ̄n(1628–58), a good administrator, became the patron of Indo-
Islamic art and architecture at its peak. He built the Ta ̄j Mahal as a memorial
to his wife and the adjacent gardens as a replica of paradise. He was
responsible for other tombs and forts. The architects for these projects were
