hero of the first episode
is beetroot: Tebbutt

gnocchi and a bean
cassoulet with smoked
beetroot. He goes to a
Chinese takeaway to
sample a selection of
tofu dishes, and the
vegetarian chef Jane
Baxter demonstrates

Polynesia, a collection
of 118 islands and atolls.
Clunes flies into Tahiti,
where he discovers the
French influence is still
strong. They speak
French, the currency
is the franc, and they
love baguettes. He
visits a vineyard where
the winemaker (a
Frenchman, bien sûr)

and is strewn with tens
of thousands of islands.
“For centuries we’ve
been sold the idea that
paradise on Earth is
here in the Pacific
islands,” says Clunes in
the intro. “But in our
uncertain, changing
world, how much of
that paradise is left,
and how long can it
survive?” To find out
he is travelling 10,000
miles from east to west,
