Beth’s tips and advice

Try to get a different perspective on a
location by bringing your camera down
to waist level. This allows the scene to be
viewed from a different angle than the usual
eye-level. When you shoot lower, try to add
some foreground to help the photo appear
more three-dimensional. If you use a wide
aperture, this will help blur out any
foreground, and it will assist the viewer
in focusing on the main subject.
Also, invest in an ND filter; it will help you
shoot with a wide aperture in bright light
without overexposing, and will help manage
glare and reflections on water or cars.

rom carrying around a
disposable camera on
school trips and at
birthday parties, to
buying old cameras and
fixing them up, I’ve been interested in
photography from an early age. As
I got older, I started shooting more and
more, and eventually went on to study
photography at university. I learnt about
other photographers’ work, styles and
techniques; and from there, my own
style started to grow and develop.
In 2016, a two-month road trip
around Canada combined my passions
for travelling and photography and
subsequently cemented my love for the
two. It was the first big trip I’d ever taken

  • the trip I’d dreamt about taking for
years – and I was worried it wouldn’t live
up to my expectations. It surpassed
every single one, though, and completely
revolutionised my ideas about the kind of
photos I wanted to produce. It inspired
me to show people the beauty in the
world, and to encourage them to get
out, explore, and see it for themselves.
Since then in my career as an
    adventure and lifestyle photographer,
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to
    inspirational destinations all over the
    world, shooting global campaigns in
    Alaska, Cuba, Switzerland and Finland.
    Without photography I’d be completely
lost. Some might say I’m a bit obsessed!
But photography makes me who I am,
and always pushes me to create the
    best work I possibly can.
    When I’m photographing landscapes,
I feel like I belong there – and whatever
stresses or worries I have, I know that
if I’m out hiking and taking photos,
    nothing else matters.
