Reader challenge

Seasonal close-ups

Enter your best shot to win a copy of Affinity Photo
for Windows or macOS worth £49/$50

One of the great things about
this month’s challenge is that you
don’t need to travel far or spend time
constructing a sophisticated home
studio setup. As long as you have a lens
that focuses relatively close – or you’re
prepared to crop images – you can create
a vast range of creative images with a
‘DIY’ approach. The only rule is that your
picture has to include an obvious close-up

element and it needs to have a loose
Christmas, seasonal or winter theme.
To enter your best image (one per
reader, please), either email your entry to
[email protected], putting
‘Seasonal Close-Up Challenge’ in the
subject line; or go to our Facebook page
(see page 3), look for the ‘Seasonal
Close-Up Challenge’ post, and upload
your entry into the feed. By entering your

image into this competition, you confirm
that you own the copyright to the image,
and agree that Digital Camera can publish
your image in relation to this competition.
You retain full copyright of your image,
and will be credited if published.
The winner will receive a copy of Serif
Affinity Photo for Windows or macOS.

CAMERA COLLEGE
And the winner of the
Autumn challenge is...
Joan Scott
In issue 249, we challenged our readers to shoot
their best image of autumn. Well done to Joan, who
wins a copy of Affinity Photo worth £49/$50.
Digital Camera says: A brilliant use of depth of field
here, Joan, with focus on the raindrop on the leaf and
the rest of the image out of focus. The autumnal
colour palette rounds off a fine graphic shot.
2nd place: Ben Dale
A great choice of shutter speed, which contrasts
the movement of the water with the stillness of
the leaves on the rocks. The tree to the right gives
a natural frame, completing the image.
3rd place: Tracey Sainsbury
Well done for trying something a bit different,
Tracey. An abstract capture of leaves swilling
in flowing water has produced a captivating
photograph that’s full of movement.

We’ll reveal the winner
of issue 250’s ‘Night Shoots’
challenge in a live stream
on 6 February at 5.30pm GMT.
