I’m committed to issues relating to
conservation, global health, poverty,
diminishing cultures, discrimination,
sustainability and the environment.
My photography tries to be optimistic,
even though my stories deal with
very complicated and difficult-to-solve
problems. I always try to leave a little
window of hope open in my images,
with the treatment of colour, light,
atmosphere or composition...
But I am not really very optimistic
about the future. The sea and the waves
are relentless. On each of my trips to the
area over the last decade, I have seen
the challenges continue to worsen.he problem of coastal erosion
in West Africa is getting worse
every year, with no good future
or solution in sight. Sea levels
off the coast of Ghana and
nearby countries continue to
rise and swallow up everything in their
path. Punished by global warming, rising
sea levels are forcing the ocean floor to
readjust by removing sediment from
the coast and washing it away from
the shore. This causes marine erosion
capable of devouring dozens of
metres of land each year.
I have spent most of my life
travelling through some of the most
disadvantaged villages on the planet.
I am always looking for images and
stories to tell, photographing villagers
and the problems they live in – almost
