Clean up
the photo
Remove any dust spots (see
‘Remove dust’ opposite).
Open the Profile Browser. Set
your Camera Profile to your
camera’s Vivid option in the
Camera Matching section.
For my Fujifilm camera, this
is Velvia/Vivid, but you might
see Camera Landscape or
Vivid Mode for your system.

Add contrast
Often the key missing
ingredient in a photo is
contrast. Contrast is
unusual because it adds or
removes Saturation as well.
Often you find increasing
contrast adds enough
saturation to a photo.
Here 45 brightens the photo
and increases saturation.

Tweak the
colours
Adding more saturation
at this point would start
to create a block of colour

  • so instead, Vibrance is
    the key. Vibrance only adds
    saturation to colours that
    aren’t already saturated.
    Setting Vibrance to 20
    brings colour to the upper
    sky here, while not affecting
    the bottom as much.

Fix the
exposure
With the light fading
fast, combined with
manual settings, the
photo is underexposed.
You could use Exposure,
but this can desaturate
and leave the image
looking washed out.
Instead, try the Whites
slider. This looks good
here set to 55.
