Generate a
multiple exposure
With the Background layer
active, press Ctrl/Cmd+J
four times to create four copies of the
layer. With the Move Tool, click on the
top layer and move it a few pixels to the
left. Click on the second layer down and
move it a few pixels to the right, then
click on the fourth copied layer and
move it to the left. Hold down Shift and
click on the top layer so all four layers
are active, then change the Blending
Mode from Normal to Lighten, and
set Opacity to 40%.3
Mimic a soft-
focus filter
With the Background Layer
active, press Ctrl/Cmd+J
to make a copy of the layer. Now go to
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur; set Radius
to 30 Pixels and click OK. Next, go to
Filter > Blur > Motion Blur; set Angle to
90° and Distance to 300 before clicking
OK. Hold down Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+U to
desaturate the layer, then change
the Blending Mode to Hard Light.
This creates a hazy, high-contrast
look similar to a soft-focus filter.2
Create a zoom burst
With the Background Layer
active, press Ctrl/Cmd+J to
make a copy of the layer. Go
to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and set Blur
Method to Zoom, Quality to Best and
Amount to 30 before clicking OK.
Set the Blending Mode for the layer
to Screen, then press Ctrl/Cmd+J to
make a copy. Change the Blending
Mode of this new layer to Multiply.
Hold down Shift and click on the
first copied layer so both layers are
selected, and set Opacity to 80%.4
Imitate shutter drag
With the Background Layer
active, press Ctrl/Cmd+J
to make a copy of the layer.
Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur;
set Angle to 0° and Distance to 400
before clicking OK. Change the Blending
Mode of the layer to Overlay. Click on
the Create New Fill Or Adjustment Layer
icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel
and select Levels from the resulting
popup menu. When the dialog box
opens, drag the White Output slider
left to 230 to reduce contrast slightly,
