HOUSE

OF THE

RISING FUN

7

HOTTEST HOME KIT

Won’t somebody think of the
knock-knock jokes? Ever since
we started to attach video-cam
doorbells to our houses, the idea
of having to ask who’s there has
become something from a time
gone by, like DVDs, chequebooks
and putting trousers on to go to
work. And with Ring’s latest dinger
upping the ante again, that classic
gag format could soon be making
friends with the dodo.
Unlike the widescreen view
of previous Ring models, which
was a bit like peering through
the letterbox, the Pro 2 opts
for a square image, which should
make it a lot easier to keep an
eye on any goodies left on your

doorstep. But more interesting than
that is the 3D motion-detection.
This camera can measure the
distance, speed, size and trajectory
of stuff that it spots in the vicinity,
so your motion alerts will be
more precise and you’ll know
whether you’re about to use
the two-way audio to talk to
next door’s cat or your latest
Amazon delivery.
On top of that, crisper 1536p
video delivers more detail than
any other Ring doorbell, while
colour night vision provides a
better view once the sun goes
down. If only it could tell jokes too.

OK, maybe ‘fun’ is pushing it for a doorbell, a

fridge and an alarm clock, but they are pretty

clever – and our gallery of the hottest
