BUILDING A

Radon might sound like the final boss from
an unreleased Mortal Kombat game, but
it’s potentially more dangerous than that.
This is a nasty radioactive gas that can
build up in your house – but installing an
Airthings House Kit should be enough to
help you defeat it.
In fact, radon is just one of many invisible
domestic evils the House Kit can detect.
It’ll also pick up on irritants given off
by cleaning products, air fresheners,
fireplaces and perfumes, which can
potentially lead to all sorts of health issues.
And unlike most air-quality monitors, this
one has multiple connected units to place
around your gaff – plus you can add more
Wave Minis (£69) as required. The kit also
has temperature and humidity sensors,
to give you an idea of how likely it is that
you’re going to find some mould growing
in the corner before it rears its horrid
greeny-black head.
The whole lot works with Alexa, Google
Assistant and IFTTT – so if you have a
suitably connected heating system,
humidifier or air purifier, you can get them
to crank into action automatically when
your air-quality readings hit a certain level.

There’s no getting away from the fact that
kitchen appliances tend to be pretty boring.
But do you know what doesn’t help that?
The fact that they’re pretty much always
white. Sure, you occasionally get a grey or
black one, but that’s hardly being spoiled for
choice, is it? Well, LG has finally had enough
of the monochrome life.
Its new range of Furniture Concept
Appliances, which includes a fridge-freezer,
microwave, dishwasher and more, comes
in various colours and finishes (admittedly
still on the understated side – this is
your kitchen, not the set of Nina and the
Neurons) including stainless steel, glass
and something called Fenix, which is
durable and fingerprint-resistant.
Our favourite is probably the InstaView
Door-in-Door Fridge, which you can see
inside by just double-tapping a window on
the front to make it go transparent – handy
if you want to check how much milk’s left
without letting all the cold air out. There’s
also a version of LG’s Styler, a bit like a
steam iron crossed with a cupboard, that
you just hang your garms in to refresh them.
