To be sure, some of these distinctions were, well, a bit less than he had hoped for.

The Class of 1942 was officially polled, to see who had the most status among the
students themselves.

For Best All-Around Fellow, '' Poppy Bush was third. Bush did not show up in the
Most Intelligent '' category.

Interestingly, Bush came in second on `` Most Faculty Drag ''--the teachers' pets--even
though Bush did not appear at all on the school's Scholastic Honors list. In fact, no
member of the Rockefeller-Bush A.U.V. was on the Honors list--despite chanting
incantations, being smeared with filth and urinating on porches.

Barbara Pierce's Tradition

The Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941,
bringing America into World War II. Because of his family's involvement with the Nazis,
this would later pose a very different problem for Andover senior Poppy Bush than for
the ordinary young man his age.
