Style at Home

(Nancy Kaufman) #1

far too many ideas and I find myselfconstantly wanting to redo the house!I’ve never really had the budget todecorate a room completely from scratch,so it tends to evolve over time as I addbits and pieces. Usually, I find a wallpaperI like, or a certain colour, and then I take itfrom there. I’ve learnt not to be afraid ofcolour. That’s not to say you should paintevery wall bright pink, but I do add subtletouches of colour in each room and Iespecially love using wallpaper to do this.I don’t mind experimenting and I’m notworried if things don’t work out, either. Ipainted our living room four times beforeI was happy – and all within two weeks. There’s definitely a theme of animalpatterns running through the house. Theybring such a sense of fun without lookingchildlike, and also seem to lend themselvesto most rooms in some guise or other.Without realising, we’ve ended up withthem pretty much everywhere. My go-to shops are John Lewis, whichhas just about everything I could ever``````need, and Habitat for its furniture, lighting, cushions and bedding. For the girls’ rooms,I love This Modern Life and Molly Meg fortheir unusual and unique pieces.``````Time to relaxNow everything is done, I like the factthat I can just enjoy being here rather thanworrying about what jobs are still left todo and always feeling like things areunfinished. As much as I love the houseand the space, we do plan to move in thenext few years. I adore the style and highceilings of Victorian houses, but Edd wouldprefer a more modern, open-plan home.Although I know we can do it, I don’t thinkI really want to take on a big project. I thinkwe’ve had enough of that for a while!’STYLE TIP‘Pick a neutralbackdrop and addpops of colour fromaccessories so itlooks fresh and iseasily changed’STONE SHADES‘We used Pebble Shoreby Dulux on the walls. It’s a really soft, warmgrey colour witha brown undertone’``````Like us on facebook.com/styleathomemagand seeour latest videos, housetours and decorating tips.``````OLD AND NEW.‘I like how theseantique mirrorscontrast with themodern Mr Foxpaper by Scion’44 |SEPTEMBER 2016 housetohome.co.uk/styleathome
