When youimportdata from the
internet into aspreadsheet ,it
sometimes contains extraASCII
characters that won’tprint.You can
remove these usin gExcel’s CLEAN
function. Forexample,type=CLEAN(F6)
into theFormula bar(^1 inour screensh ot
above) to deleteunwantedASCII
characters fromcell F6.You can also se ta
rangeofc ells by typing,say,F6:F10.In
ourexample,we’ve removedthe vertical
tabfromthe first rowofcells^2.

your searches by lookingonlyfor
particulartypesoffile.Click the


Files icon,whichlooks likeapaperclip
andshouldbebetween th ePeopleand To
Do icons.Outlook.com will then load
emails that have att achments.
Next, clickthe Filter option at thetop
to reveal thesearchcategories.Options
here include allphotos,all fil es,Word
docu ments, Excelspreadsheetsandsoon.
Youcan also clickone of thedate-range
options at thebottom, andcombi ne this
with thefile ca tegories to refineyour
sear ch. In ourscree nshot (above), we’re
sear chingfor Excelfiles received in the
lastweek.

optionletsyoudouble-
clickanywhereina
documentandstarttyping,overriding
theusualmarginsandformatting.It’sthe
closestWordgetstogivingyouadigital
notepadtoscribbleon.
Beforeyoucanuseit,youmustchange
thepageviewtoWebLayout(which
showsyouwhatadocumentwouldlook
likeifpublishedasawebsite),orPrint
Layout (whichshows what it wouldlook
likewhenprinted). These options appear
in thetop left when youclick View (see
screenshot below). Youcan save the
docu ment as normal –you don’t have to
printitorpublishito nline.
LibreOffice Writer hasasimilar option
called Direct Cursor.Click Tools, Options,
then selectthe LibreOfficeWritermenu
on theleftand clickFormatting Aids.
Tick ‘Direc tCursor’inthe boxthat
appears,thenclick OK.

ExcelintoaPowerPointpresentation:
youcaneitherlinktoitorembedit.If
youlinkthedata,anychangesyou
maketoitinExcelareautomatically
reflectedinyourpresentation,though
youcan’t editthedatainPowerPoint.
Youmustalsokeepthespreadsheetin
thesamelocationonyourcomputer.
Embeddingthedatacopiesitinto
yourpresentation,sothere’s nolink
withtheoriginalspreadsheet. This
meansanychangesyoumakein
Excelwon’tappearautomaticallyin
PowerPoint,butyoucaneditthedata
inyourpresentation.

orembedyourdata.First,openExceland
PowerPoint.InExcel,selectthecellsyou
wanttoadd,thenright-clickthemand
chooseCopy.NowinPowerPoint,click
whereyou’dlikethedatatoappear.Click
theHometabfollowedbythesmall
