Abetteralternative is Nextdoor,

whichiss pecificallydesigned to keep

neigh bour sint ouch .Since it launchedin

theUSin2011, Nextdoorhas expand ed to

afurther 10 countries-includingthe UK.

Nextdoorclaims oneinseven peoplein

theUKare members, across 270,000

neigh bour hoods,manyofwhomsigned

up during thelockdowns to offer help

andsupporttopeopleinneed.

Create and verifyyour account

To start, visithttps://nextdoor.co.ukthen

enteryourhomeand emailaddresses,

andclick the‘Join your neigh bour hood’

button. You’ll seethe name of your

neigh bour hood,alongwithamap of the

area.Enter somemoredetails,thencreate

apasswordand an invite code (whichyou

can receivebypostify ou’reunableto

verify your accou nt by phone).

The site will nowtakeyou to your news

feed,whichdisplaysposts from members

(inclu dingbusin esse s) in your

neigh bour hood.

Click‘AllGroups’ on thelefttosee

groupsnearyou. Clic kthe greenCreate

button, then Verif y. You’ll need to enter

your phonenumber to receivea

four-digit code.Typeitw henita rrives,

then enterthe name of your spouse or

partner-or clickSkip, topright.

Nextdoorasksyou to addemergency

contacts ,but againyou can skip this -

alongwiththe option forNextdoorto

send invitation le ttersony ourbehalf.

Finally, tick ‘I agree’ in the‘Good

neigh bour pledge’box,and thesitewill

retu rn youtoyournews feed.Click ‘All

Grou ps’again,ont he left,followedby

Create.Typeyourgroup name,choosea

location(you can addareas outside your

neigh bour hood), then select aprivacy

setting: ‘Open’ means anyone can join

without aski ng,while ‘Private’means

they have to askyou first.

Invit emembers

Youcan nowwrite apostexplaining

whyyou createdyourgroup.Nextdoor

recommends aski ng aquestion in the

subjectlineand post–something like‘Do

youlovewalking as much as Ido?’–

because this incr eases thenumbe rof

responses .You can also pi npoint your

locationon amap,and ad dphotos and

vide os.

Your group’s page should nowbeliveon

Nextdoor .Anyonewho’s familiar wi th

screenshot below) to addaphoto. Ty pe in

message. Clic k‘Invi te’toa dd members^3.

As th egroup’s admin, you’ll need to

mana ge your membership.Dot hisby

name,then‘Manage members’.The

‘Invites’option here is us eful,because it
