GRAY ANATOMY

A deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid) or B12 can lead to prematurely grey
hair. These vitamins help with the production of DNA and RNA and help
produce methionine, an amino acid connected to hair colour. Foods rich in
folate, the natural form of folic acid, include asparagus, chickpeas, lentils,
lima beans, spinach, and cooked rice and pasta. Adults should get 400
micrograms of folate a day (600 micrograms for pregnant women and 500
micrograms for women who are breastfeeding).
