Now, what happens if you have nothing that even begins to resemble ice
cream in your home? You’re certainly in no mood to get in the car, drive to the
convenience store, pick up sweet supplies, then drive back. Not worth it. So
instead—because this is what’s sitting in your fridge—you fill a bowl with plain
Greek yoghurt, add a generous scoop of berries, and shave some dark chocolate
over the top.
My prediction: The show will be just as fun and the snack just as satisfying,
while the health outcome is so much better. Prepare yourself and your kitchen
for times when you would typically grab ice cream (or whatever junk food you
go for), and you’ll change what’s going on in your body just by letting
superfoods do their good work.
Once you get started, you’ll always be tweaking your environment for the
better.
Recently at my home, we moved our veggies and salad ingredients out of the
crisper. It was harder to see them there, so they’d often go bad before we used
them. While we’re generally conscientious about eating enough fruits and
vegetables, this change made a big difference. Instead of our having to
consciously root around for healthy produce, it looks us in the eye as soon as we
open the refrigerator. Lisa makes a wonderful brothy soup we always have on
hand. It’s great for nights when I don’t feel like having a big dinner, but I do
want something. A bowl of that soup is a life-saver. I get nourishment and feel
