The Future For Islam

(Tuis.) #1
IMAM ABU AL-FIDA' ISMAC~L IBN KATHfR 227

of the Banii Nabha; his mother was of the Banii al-Nadir. He was killed by the
Companions before Abii hfic, as will be shown, along with his two allies
al-Hajjaj b. Wmar and Kardam b. Qays. God curse them all!
These men were from the Banii &Nadir.
From the Bana Thalaba b. al-Fiyyawn there was 'Abd Allah b. Sciriya. There
was no man in the Hijaz more learned in the Torah than he was.
I would observe here that he is said to have accepted Islam.
And there were Ibn Saliiba and Mukhayriq, the latter accepting Islam, as will
be mentioned later, at the battle of Uhud; he had been his people's rabbi.
From the Banii Qaynuqa'there was Zayd h. al-lasit, Sa'd b. Hanif, M+md
b. Sayha, Wzayz b. Abii Wzayz, 'Abd Allah b. Dayf, Suwayd b. al-Haith,
Rifa'a b. Qays, Finhas, Ashya: NuWn b. Adz, B*ri b. 'Amr, Sha's b. 'Adi,
Sba's b. Qays, Zayd b. al-Harith, NuCm?m b. 'Amr, Sukayn b. Abii Sukayn, 'Adi
b. Zayd, Nucman b. Aba Awfa, Abii Anas, Mahmiid b. D&ya, Mdik b. Sayf,
Ka'b b. hshid, 'Azir, Rgfi' b. Abii Rxfi', Khdid, and Azar b. Aba Az%. The last-
mentioned should be named Azar b. Abii Azar according to Ibn Hishim. Also
there were R%fic b. Haritha, Rxfi' b. Huraymala, &fi' b. Khaija, Malik b. 'Awf,
Rif%'a b. Zayd b. al-Tabiit and 'Abd All& b. Salam.
I observe that the last-mentioned had earlier accepted Islam, God he pleased
with him. Ibn Ishaq stated, "He was their rabbi and most learned man. His name
had been al-Husayn, and when he accepted Islam the Messenger of God (SAAS)
named him 'Abd All&."
Ibn Ishaq stated, "From the Bana Qurayza there were al-Zubayr b. Bat% b.
Wahb, 'Azzd b. Shamwil, and Ka'b b. Asad. The last-mentioned was the one
who had signed for his tribe the agreement they broke in the year of the ahzzb,
the schisms. Also there were Shamwil b. Zayd, Jabal b. 'Amr b. Sukayna,
al-N&hm b. Zayd, Kardam h. Ka'b, Wahb b. Zayd, Nafic b. Abii Nafic, 'Adi b.
Zayd, al-Harith b. 'Awf, Kardam b. Zayd, Umna b. Habib, hfic b. Rnmayla,
Jabal b. Abii Qushayr and Wahb b. Yahiidha.
From the Banii Zurayq there was Labid b. A'sam, who had put a spell on the
Messenger of God (SAAS).
From the Jews of the Banii Haitha there was Kinana b. Siiriya.
From the Jews of the Banii 'Amr b. 'Awf there was Qardam b. 'Amr.
From the Jews of the Banii al-Najj% there was Silsila b. Barham."
Ibn Ishaq stated, "All these men were rabbis and men of evil intent and full of
antagonism towards the Messenger of God (SAAS) and his Companions, God
be pleased with them. They were those who asked the Messenger of God
(SAAS) many questions in their desire to confuse and to express their obstinacy
and disbelief. They were men who made difficulties for Islam and who tried to
extinguish it. Exceptions to this were 'Abd All& b. Sh and Mukhayriq."

Ibn Ish~q then related the acceptance of Islam by 'Abd Allah b. Salim, along
with that of his aunt Khalida, as we mentioned above.
