THE TOP SIX VR HEADSETS

2

HTC VIVE COSMOS ELITE

$ 899. 00 , http://www.vive.com
As one of the forerunners of
modern VR gaming headsets,
Vive knows what it is
doing. The Cosmos
Elite is a solid PC
VR headset that
gives you a great
immersive experience.
It is well constructed
with accurate tracking
and the gameplay is as smooth as you’d expect
from HTC Vive. Expensive, but the premium feel
and the great controllers make it worth the money.

HP REVERB G 2 $ 449. 00 , http://www.hp.com
HP isn’t particularly well-known for its VR gear,
but that isn’t reflected in the quality of the Reverb G2.
Developed alongside Microsoft and Valve, this PC-
based tethered headset provides great immersion.
Its high-quality screen at 2160 x 2160 per eye and a
decent level of comfort deliver a strong VR gaming
experience, all for a fairly reasonable price tag.

VALVEINDEX

$ 999. 00 , http://www.store.
steampowered.com
A VR headset from the
creators of Steam
should be a recipe
for success. It’s fairly
pricey and doesn’t
have the luxury of being
untethered, however, its
120 Hz display should help
prevent motion sickness,
one of VR’s biggest downsides. The individual
finger-tracking controllers are revolutionary,
making the Index a great high-end VR package.

PLAYSTATION VR $ 299. 99 , http://www.
playstation.com This PlayStation 4 headset
brought VR to a wider audience and, though a little
outdated, still offers an experience that’s easier to
manage than a typical PC rig. It is also compatible with
the PS 5 through a camera adapter. Sony is working on
a new version of PlayStation VR for its latest console,
which should address the outdated feel of this device.

HTC VIVE PRO 2 $ 1 , 399. 00 , http://www.
vive.com. The most premium VR headset
experience on PC comes with a hefty price tag. It has
a 5K display paired with a 120 Hz refresh rate and the
outcome is gorgeous. It is supremely comfortable
and the sense of immersion is peerless. Sure, we’d
love it to be tetherless, but we can’t have everything.
Unfortunately, the controllers let it down a little too.

OCULUS QUEST 2

$ 299. 00 , http://www.oculus.
com. This standalone
headset offers more
freedom than tethered
rigs, though you can also
pair it to your PC with an
additional cable if you prefer. Like Vive,
Oculus has been around since the start of
VR’s emergence over the past decade. This headset
features ergonomic halo controllers and a decent
array of title releases, making the Oculus Quest 2 an
excellent alternative to a fully-fledged PC setup. As
one of the most accessible headsets on the market
right now, it’s a great starting point into VR.
