Courtney Bennett
Courtney Collins Burns Bennett, 40, of Kalamazoo, Michigan
passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Bronson
Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born
on October 13, 1981 to Michael and Tammy (Tunning) Burns
Marshall, Michigan.
Courtney graduated
from Marshall High
School in 1999 and then
graduated from Kellogg
Community College
earning her Associate’s
Degree in 2005. She
met and then married
Josh Bennett on August
11, 2007 in Marshall,
Michigan. Courtney
worked as a Server
for Bell’s Brewery in
Kalamazoo for many
years. Courtney had a
very outgoing personality
with the gift of making
people laugh and feel great about themselves. She will be
dearly missed by all because of her selfless and generous
spirit. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting and reading but her
absolute greatest joy was her daughter and son. Courtney is
survived by her loving husband Josh of Kalamazoo, Michigan;
her children Harper Collins Bennett and Silas Gibson Bennett;
her parents Michael (Tammy) Burns of Marshall, Michigan;
her siblings Shane Burns of Detroit, Michigan and Cassidy
(Chris Kortman) Burns of Marshall; her nephews Jace
Kortman and Brody Kortman, both of Marshall; Arlo Bennett
and Owen Bennett, both of Traverse City, Michigan; her father
and mother-in-law; Gary (Karla) Bennett of Marshall and her
brother-in-law Matt (Leah) Bennett of Traverse City. She is
also survived by Bill Bennett of Marshall and Karl (Linda)
Kendall of Marshall. A Celebration of Courtney’s Life will
be announced at a later date. Memorials are suggested to

Guy Burrows
Guy Burrows, 65, of Marshall, Michigan, passed away on
Monday, January 10, 2022. He was born on January 16, 1956,
the son of Robert Burrows and Elnora (Bass) Burrows. Guy
was an outdoorsman who loved going up north to go fishing.
He also loved decorating for the holidays and was always very
family oriented, loving
the time he spent with
them. He was also the
coach of children’s
sports teams for many
years. Guy enjoyed
NASCAR and old cars
but above all, he will
mostly be remembered
as a loving husband
and father. He is
survived by his loving
wife of 46 years, Debra
(Waidelich) Burrows;
daughter, Kari (Robert)
Dillard and son
Kevin Burrows; four
grandchildren Gavin,
Josephine, Noah
and Nathan; brothers
Robert Burrows, Sondia Burrows and Creighton Burrows;
sisters Linda and Julie and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Burrows and
mother, Elnora Burrows; brother Lon and sister Gabrielle.

Jenny Eaton
Born on November 21, 1936 in Indiana, Jenny Mae Robinson
Eaton passed away in her sleep on January 8, 2022, at her
home. Jenny moved to Michigan at a young age, where
she met and married John Costello in Marshall, Michigan.
She was a nurse with Oaklawn Hospital and then worked at
various other jobs. In her later years, she became a home
healthcare nurse for close to 20 years. In 1977, Jenny married
Daryl Eaton, who preceded her in death in 2017. She is
survived by daughters Karen Sheffield of Battle Creek; Teresa
Allamong of Phoenix, Arizona; and Patricia Costello of Battle
Creek, as well as her son John Costello of Battle Creek; seven
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Jenny is also
survived by her sister Effie Beard. She was preceded in death
by her son Robert Costello and her husband Daryl Eaton.
Over the years, Jenny had many ‘boyfriends’ who treated her
very well and took her on cruises. She loved flowers and
birds, with her birdfeeders out 365 days a year. She loved
cross-stitching. Jenny had excellent hearing and vision until
her passing. Her health declined due to exposure to second
hand smoke over a number of years, causing COPD. Jenny
loved her animals, especially her cats and she loved to donate
to and support Wounded Warriors. Any donations in Jenny’s
name can be made to Wounded Warriors. A private memorial
and burial will take place in the near future.


Vera Hoffman
Vera Elaine Hoffman, 74, of Olivet, Michigan passed away
on Friday, January 7, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving
family. She was born on January 27, 1947 to Raymond and
Maxine (Lownsbery) VanCleve in Lansing, Michigan. Vera
was a longtime dog
breeder with Minature
Pinchers. She enjoyed
reading, cooking
especially baking, going
to yard sales, Vera loved
being out in the garden
and then canning her
vegetables she raised.
Her dogs and cat were
her favorite animals. She
loved her grandchildren
with all her heart. Vera is
survived by her children;
Tammy (Mark) Slentz
of Springport, Michigan
and James Ledvina
of Lansing, Michigan; her grandaughter and caretaker
Jessica (Brandon Jodway) Mast of Olivet, Michigan, and her
brother David (Barb) Lownsbery of Eagle, Michigan. Eight
grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren also survive her.
Her parents; her son John D. Roderick and her brothers
Ralph Lownsbery, Daniel Lownsbery and Tony Lownsbery
preceded her in death. A memorial service for Vera will be
held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested

Evelyn L. Hughes
Evelyn Lucille Hughes, age 92, of Marshall, passed away on
January 13, 2022. She was born on March 30, 1929, the
daughter of the late Elon and Anniece (Greening) Hiscock.
She attended Lakeview High School where she met her future
husband Norwood (Bud) Hughes and they were married
on August 12, 1946.
Evelyn and Bud had
four children: Karen
(Phil) Buys, Christine
(Dennis) Jeffery, Brian
Hughes and Thomas
Hughes. Preceding
her in death were her
husband Bud; son
Thomas; her parents
Elon and Anniece;
brother Richard
Hiscock; and nieces,
nephews, and step
grandchildren. She
was the grandmother
of eight grandchildren
and several great-
grandchildren. Evelyn
was a homemaker,
and helped with the
animals on their family farms. Her favorite memory was
nursing an injured fawn back to health that she named Bambi.
Evelyn was a very hard worker who loved her big garden and
picking and selling sweet corn to neighbors and friends. She
also enjoyed taking care of her flowers. In later years after
they retired, Evelyn and Bud would travel the United States in
their motor home, visiting all fifty states. After her husband’s
passing, she would spend Sundays with her daughter going
for long rides, followed by watching old movies with a dog
and cat lying by her side. She was a great mother who
would always do for others before herself; additionally, she
would take care of her neighbors when they were in need. A
private family graveside service will take place in Oakridge
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
given to the Humane Society of South-Central Michigan.

Jack A. Sheppard
Jack Allen Sheppard, 82, of Burlington, formerly of Tekonsha,
passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Colonial House
in Marshall. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 1:
PM on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the First Baptist Church
of Tekonsha. Cremation will follow and a private burial will
take place at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha. Visitation
will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the
First Baptist Church of Tekonsha. Jack was born November
21, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to Kenneth and Ermel (Ludwig)
Sheppard. He graduated from Union City High School with
the Class of 1957 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy, being
stationed in Cuba and
Puerto Rico. Jack
attended Lansing
Barber College and
worked as a barber in
Union City, Burlington,
Homer and Tekonsha
before taking a job
in Battle Creek at
Kellogg’s, from which
he retired. On April 25,
1965 he married Linda
Edwards at Cook’s
Prairie Baptist Church
in Homer. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling up
north with “the guys,” golfing in a league, competing at trap
and skeet shooting, and tractor pulling from here to Louisville.
Jack served as the mayor of Tekonsha for several years and
was a member of the Kellogg’s 25 Year Club. Surviving are
his daughter Toni (Kevin) Ware of Burlington; grandchildren
Luke Ware of Tekonsha, Lona Ware of Burlington and James
(Jennifer) Stevens; one great-grandchild Jackson; and his
dear friends Amy Scott, Danny Owens and the caregivers
at Colonial House. His parents; his wife Linda of 56 years,
who passed away in 2021 and his brother, Donald Sheppard,
