Three vehicles stolen
On January 12, 2022 at 5 a.m., Calhoun County
Sheriff’s Offi ce deputies were called in response to a
larceny at Henkel Auto Group, which is located on Dickman
Road in the City of Springfi eld. The Calhoun Area Multi-
Jurisdiction Evidence Team (CAMJET) processed the scene.
It was determined that suspects arrived in a single vehicle,
and then broke a showroom window to make entry into the
building. The suspects stole numerous key fobs from inside
the building, then used those keys to auto-start vehicles on
the property. One of the vehicles was used to overrun the
fences surrounding the Henkel Auto Group property, and
the suspects then fl ed with three stolen vehicles.
On January 13, Kalamazoo Public Safety recovered
three stolen vehicles. Two were from the previous night’s
larceny, and a third was from a break-in and larceny at
Henkel Auto Group that took place in December 2021.
The Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdiction Evidence Team
that processed the scene is made up of offi cers from the
Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police
and Marshall Police Department.
Anyone with information about this incident should
call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Offi ce at 269-781-
or Silent Observer at 269-781-0912.

of the packages on their front porch and when they
checked approximately 20 minutes later, the packages were
gone. Offi cers are working with neighbors to review any
surveillance footage and anyone with additional information

Ok. Enough already of
2021, right? But wait! What
if we could actually hand
old Father Time a report
card for his performance last
year? Think of the get-even
satisfaction of giving some
old-school style grades, as
if they might actually help
to inspire better grades in
2022? Consider...
Bottoms up, how about
starting with a big “E” for
exasperating, but also, for
effort! Plenty of both, but
the lessons learned in the
process may be priceless.
Or an overall “D” for
disastrous, disappointing,
discouraging...definitely
below average for most of us
who may still be discovering
positive ways of recovering.
Yes, even the weather has
acted a bit defi ant, but the
sun is determined to shine
again!
Then there’s “C”.
Change, confl ict, challenge,
confi nement, chaos
anyone? Yes, but there’s
also companionship,
consideration, cooperation,
compassion and maybe
even a little compromise in

coping?
And there’s “B” for
bummer, but traditionally
and with hope, the new year
has been called a collection
of possibilities for better--
even odds-beating, big-time
better.
We still have “A”--
always for achievement and
adjustments, especially in
the midst of aggravation and
annoyance!
We’ve all experienced
report cards, right?
Final grades usually end
up being somewhere
between expectations,
boundaries, consequences-
-and sometimes, the
“community” factor, that
word that has “U” and “I”
in it, but no “B” for balance.
That’s something we have
to add to the mix ourselves
somehow.
So, we didn’t cover “F”
yet. Yup, failure, frustration
and fear are all there. But in
our school-of-life classwork
this new year, may our “F’s”
be more about healthy
faith, fellowship, family and
friendship!
Jennifer Darling and
Jacob Gates, both from the
Franke Center in Marshall,
talked to the Exchange Club
members on Jan. 17 about
the upcoming Wolf Tree
Film Festival.
This year’s event will
be Saturday, Jan. 22, with
doors opening at 6pm and
the fi lm viewing starting at
7pm. This year’s event will
consist of nine short fi lms
with three of the fi lmmakers
from the Marshall/
Albion area. Six of the
nine fi lmmakers are from
Michigan with Minnesota
and Illinois comprising the
remaining three. There will
be six fi lmmakers at the
Marshall Exchange
hosts Gates and Darling
event and all of the fi lms are
under 30 minutes.
Gates and Darling told
the group that the MC for the
night will be John Matthew
Riopelle, an L.A. resident
screenwriter, who has
local ties with his brother
Peter Riopelle a regular at
Cornwell’s dinner theater.
The agenda includes a round
table that John will conduct
with the six fi lmmakers in
attendance. The night will
be divided into sections with
fi ve fi lms being viewed, a
short intermission, and then
the remaining four fi lms. An
award ceremony will follow
the viewing of the fi lms.
Expectations are that
the event will be a near
sellout. Capacity at the
event is 260 individuals and
past years have produced
180-200 attendees. Last
year’s event was virtual and
the crew is looking forward
to welcoming back an in
person event at the Franke.
