Finally, you need to understand going in that some sites
are completely free, some will only show your matches
for free, and some require full paid membership. While
cost doesn’t always determine your chances of success,
online dating is just like anything else... you often get
what you pay for.
Step 2: Test your profile picture. That means taking
several different pictures of yourself... then asking some
WOMEN friends for their brutally honest opinions on
them. I personally tried this with several pictures and got
VASTLY different opinions than I would have guessed.
Think about that... I had no clue what women REALLY
thought of my photo, and small variations in lighting...
expression... what I was wearing... all made a HUGE
difference.
In other words, even though I’m basically the same guy
in each photo, my chances of success changed
DRASTICALLY based on my choice of picture alone. (And
guess what: the picture that women liked the best was
NOT the one that I would have picked. Go figure...)
Step 3: Write a profile that instantly HOOKS a woman’s
interest. You do it with the same concepts that we’ve
already discussed in this book, from using Cocky Comedy
to being unpredictable. Communicate these qualities in
your profile, and you’ll immediately STAND OUT FROM
THE CROWD the moment a woman clicks. Do just that
much, and trust me... you’re already WAY ahead of the
game.
Step 4: Practice the “Art of the IM” by visiting non-dating
chat rooms first. Basically, conversation via IM has both
advantages AND disadvantages. You have time to plan
what you’re going to say... but, if you’re slow, you come
across as flaky or distracted. You don’t have to worry
about “blowing it” with a woman face-to-face using IM...
but you don’t have facial expression and body language
