iable in acipenseriforms, suggesting that the dermal
patterning changed in Pseudoscaphirhynchus.

The jugal ofPseudoscaphirhynchusis huge, extend-
ing anteriorly to completely undercut the orbit and
mostofthe olfactory opening, but lacks a canal pro-
cess (see Character 3)enclosing the infraorbital ca-
