fleetedorborrowedlight;andbythesamemeans,we
canalwaysdeterminewhetherlightfromtheheavenly
bodiesisreflectedfromplanetsandmoons,oremitted
bysuns.
TheCreatordetermined,intheconstitutionoflight,
thatbodiesreflectinglightshouldnotbemistakenfor
thosewhichareself-luminous. TheHghtofthemoon
isessentiallydifferentfromthatofthesun;otherwise
weshouldcertainlyhavebeendeceivedastothechar-
acterofthesetwoheavenlybodies. ButGodwillnot
deceive; Hewill not evenallow a deception in the
worksofHishands.
ButHewhocreatedlightandgaveitallitsproper-
ties knew justwhat these properties are. Heknew
that theglory of thesun wasnottheglory ofthe
moon,andHetoldusthat"thereisonegloryofthe
sun,andanothergloryofthemoon," foronediffers
fromtheotheringlory. Weoughttohavebelieved
inHisWord. Hemade lightsothat itwouldbring
usthemessage ofthis differenceinthesunandthe
moon,andthenHesentusthesamemessageinHis
Word. Had wenotbeen set in our own way, we
wouldhave receivedthat messagelongago, andour
sciencemusthavebeenthebetterforit,andastronomy
wouldthushave been farin advanceof whatitis.
Goddoesnotwantustobeinignorance. Fromevery
side,Heoffers encouragement andinducement. He
givesusmostearnestinvitation,"Ifanyofyou lack
wisdom,let himask ofGod, that giveth toall men
liberally, and upbraideth not; and itshall he given
him"
