Notonlyisthere anopeninginthenebulaatthis
place,butthewholenebulaitselfisconicalorconcave,
withthelargerrimdirectednearlytowardtheearthly
observer. Iquoteregardingthis

"ThemultiplestarOrionis formingthetrapezium
mightbe called the foundation stone ofthe edifice.
Allthelinesofitsarchitecturearelaiddownwithref-
erencetoit;andintimatephysicalassociationsofthe
stars with the gaseous stuff surrounding them has
been spectrographicallydemonstratedbySirWilliam
andLadyHuggins, andamplyratifiedbyProfessors
FrostandAdams.
