whetheraggregatedor inits hypothetical units,acts
uponmatterthroughabsolutelyvacant space,andyet
thisconclusion ispositively unthinkable."
Now,asinthedaysofJob,nomanknowsbywhat
waythe lightis distributed. In thespringtime, the
sunlight touches the earth, and wakes the dormant
lifebeneaththesod,andallthehillsidesgrowradiant
with beauty; buthow thislight reachesus, noman
cantell. Andthisisnottheonlymystery.
The worldisfull ofmysteries;butthisis because
theworldislargerthanthemeasureofman'smind.
And, too, there are mysteries in God's providence,
mysteriesinHisWord;buttheyaremysteriesbecause
that providence and that Word are largerthan our
feeblethought. As theheavensare higherthan the
earth, soareGod's wayshigherthanourways, and
Histhoughts than our thoughts. Isa. 55:9.
Shallweignorethese mysteries, assome so-called
scientistsdo,andsaythatallthethingsofnatureare
explained withoutthe necessity of a Creator? Or
shallweallowthemysterytothrowaboutourminds
thedarknessofdoubtandunrest? Orshallwe,like
Job,findoursouls'rest inHimwhoisgreaterthan
allmystery,and confideourallto Himwhoknows,
uxdwhowillmake knownas weare abletoendure
andunderstand?
Letusdigressfromthesubjectoflightlongenough
toconsiderthismatterofmysteriesandourattitude
