In Hosea 7:8, I read,"Ephraim, he hath mixed

turned." Herewehave afamiliarscenebroughtto
view. The batter fora griddlecake is spreadupon
thepan,andthereitisleft;itisnotturnedover. The
wordhereused,unmistakablymeanstomakeatleast
ahalf revolution.
Inthethirty-seventh chapter ofJob,—the chapter
precedingtheonethatcontainstheverseundercon-
sideration,—wehavethiswordusedwithtwoadverbs
thatthrowlightuponitssignificance. "Hescattereth
Hisbrightcloud:anditisturnedroundaboutbyHis
counsels." Verses 11, 12. Thenthewords"round"
and"about"may followthisword. Thisshows that
itissometimes usedinthesenseofrevolve. InJob
9:5,wehaveafurtherillustration. "Whichremoveth
themountains,andtheyknownot:whichoverturneth
theminHisanger." Herethewordisrendered"over-
turneth,"andthemeaning isverymanifest.
But wehave astillmore significantillustrationof
themeaningofthisword. "WhenGideonwascome,
behold, therewas aman thattold adreamuntohis
fellow,andsaid,Behold,Idreamedadream,and,lo,
acakeofbarleybreadtumbledintothehostofMidian,
andcame untoa tent, and smoteitthatit fell,and
overturnedit,thatthetentlayalong." Judges7:13.
