"Withwhatframeofmindshouldonedisciplineoneselfin

thetruth?"

SaidtheZenmaster,"Thereisnomindtobeframed,noris

thereanytruthinwhichtobedisciplined."
"Ifthereisnomindtobeframedandnotruthinwhichtobe

disciplined,whydoyouhaveadailygatheringofmonkswhoare

studyingZenanddiscipliningthemselvesinthetruth?"

Themasterreplied:"Ihavenotaninchofspacetospare,

andwherecouldIhaveagatheringofmonks?Ihavenotongue,

andhowwoulditbepossibleformetoadviseotherstocometo

me?"

Thephilosopherthenexclaimed,"Howcanyoutellmealie

likethattomyface?"

"WhenIhavenotonguetoadviseothers,isitpossibleforme

toteUalie?"

SaidDokodespairingly,"Icannotfollowyourreasoning."

"NeitherdoIunderstandmyself,"concludedtheZenmaster.
