Performing Hand Hygiene Using an
Alcohol-Based Hand Rub
Goal:Transient microorganisms are eliminated from
the hands. Comments
- Remove jewelry, if possible, and secure in a safe place. A
plain wedding band may remain in place. - Check the product labeling for correct amount of product
needed. - Apply the correct amount of product to the palm of one
hand. Rub hands together, covering all surfaces of hands
and fingers, and between fingers. Also clean the fingertips
and the area beneath the fingernails. - Rub hands together until they are dry (at least 15 seconds).
- Use oil-free lotion on hands if desired.
